Map a workflow before automating it

- No new purchase required for this exercise
- Required tools
- A note taking tool and your existing project information
- Prerequisites
- Choose a task or idea to work through
Identify inputs, steps and approval points before adding automation.
This practical exercise helps you make a clearer plan. It does not promise work, sales or earnings.
1. Choose a repeatable task
Pick a task you understand and perform regularly. Start with something small, such as turning meeting notes into a draft task list. Avoid beginning with a process where mistakes would be difficult to reverse.
2. Describe the trigger and inputs
Write what starts the process and what information it needs. Identify the owner of each input. Use only information you have permission to share with any service involved.
3. List the steps
Write the process in order, including decisions and exceptions. Separate mechanical steps from steps that require judgment. Note what happens when an input is missing or a result is unclear.
4. Add a review gate
Choose where a person must approve the result. Keep review before publishing, sending messages or making consequential changes. Define what a correct output looks like so someone can check it.
5. Test and document
Use a small, non sensitive example. Compare the result with the expected output. Record failures and a manual fallback. This guide produces a workflow plan; it does not connect or run an automation for you.
Your completion checklist
- Trigger and required inputs
- Ordered steps
- Exceptions and fallback
- Human approval point
- A small test case
Your next move
Save your notes, choose one small action and set a date to review what happened.
